The Four Ways that You May Be Unknowingly Limiting Yourself

Before you get the results on your Personal Profile, please take a moment to read this page to become familiar with the four common ways that people tend to unknowingly limit themselves from creating the work and life they want.

Being Right
There is a tendency for some people to want to be right, to the point where they lose touch with how this is alienating their self from others. In order to be right, someone else must be wrong. To be right requires that you make judgements about others ideas, or actions that attempts to justify your ideas and actions as better than theirs. The lure of being right is to give you a false sense of being in control and even dominating or intimidating others. The cost of being right is to create distance, distrust, and damage to a relationship. Ultimately, this hurts their ability to be truly powerful and open to learning what they need to in order to succeed.

Looking Good
Another common way that people tend to limit themself, is to focus on looking good to the point they lose touch with themselves. They become overly concerned with seeking other people's approval, that they have a hard time accepting themself as they are. Their motivation and drive comes from outside themself as they try to get attention and please others excessively. They tend to overwork, be over responsible, as they are so focused on their image and appearance, that they ignore how their own feelings and needs. The cost of trying to look good is that they eventually burnout and resent others for not being appreciated enough. Finally, by focusing on looking good they lose touch with their passion and inner motivation to create what they want.

Avoiding Responsibility
In this case there is a tendency to avoid responsibility to point where a person would feel powerless and like a victim. There is a need to blame and complain a lot, and try to get attention with "poor me" stories. Often they have elaborate reasons why they can't do what they want, and end up becoming dependant on others as they give their power away too easily. Avoiding responsibility leads to a feeling of being out of control, anxiety, and helplessness.

Playing it Safe
The fourth way that people unknowingly limit themself is to play it safe to the point that they take few risks to get what they want. They lower their expectations, and try to get by each day without too many hassles. They don’t want to risk failure, or being disapproved of by anyone so they attempt to conform, be nice, and not make waves. Being secure becomes more important than being successful. The irony here is that more they play it safe, the more they give up what they want, which is basically the same as having failed.
